A Colombian judge has sentenced a journalist to 15 years in jail for acts of terrorism on behalf of guerrilla group FARC, reported local media Wednesday.
Ex-journalist Fredy Muñoz, alias “Jorge Eliecer,” has been handed a 15-year custodial sentence and ordered to pay a fine of $380,000 by a judge in the coastal city of Cartagena, reported El Universal.
Muñoz was an “expert in the manufacture of explosives” for the FARC’s 37th Front operating in Colombia’s north, according to the prosecution.
The 42-year old was found guilty of “coordinating terrorist acts committed in Cartagena, such as that executed against an electrical substation in the Manga neighborhood, among other crimes…”
Police managed to detain Muñoz in November 2006 at Bogota’s El Dorado airport. Prior to his life of crime, Muñoz was a staffer for news outlet “TeleSur.”
