Award-winning Colombian journalist and filmmaker Ernesto McCausland died Wednesday after a fight against cancer.
McCausland lost his life after a long battle against pancreatic cancer at the age of 51.
Born in Barranquilla, McCausland began his career in journalism with newspaper El Heraldo in 1982. Since 2010 he served as the editor for the publication.
During his career McCausland picked up 17 awards for journalism, including the prestigious Simon Bolivar National prize for Journalism, which he took home in 2012.
McCausland was also notable for directing three films: El último carnaval (1998), Siniestro (2000) and Champeta Paradise (2003).
McCausland is survived by his wife Milena and two daughters.
Fellow journalist Jorge Cura relayed the news via Twitter saying ‘It was just confirmed that our dear friend and brother, Ernesto McCausland, passed away. An irreplaceable loss.’
