Colombian horror flick “El Paramo” is nominated for Best Latin American Film at the 2012 Goya Awards, newspaper El Espectador revealed Monday.
The Colombian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences selected “El Paramo” to represent Colombia at the Spanish film awards.
The film’s nomination comes as no surprise to Colombian box offices, which saw exceptionally high sales after its September 7 release. An estimated 45,000 moviegoers saw “El Paramo” in the film’s first three days on the silver screen.
The psychological thriller, directed by Jaime Osorio Marquez, follows nine Colombian soldiers who are sent to investigate a mountain-top military base after it loses contact with military headquarters and make a startling, unexpected discovery.
“El Paramo” was co-produced by Argentina and Spain. The film’s producer noted that its Goya nomination “is an important opportunity for this film to gain a much wider dissemination in the Spanish market.”
The 26th annual Goya Awards will be presented February 19, 2012.
