Colombian hip hop duo Tres Coronas will release their new album “La Musica es mi Arma” on April 28.

“This is a clear message of resistance,” the Latin urban music group said of the album, the title of which means “Music is my weapon,” and which consists of 12 songs. “This is a child of which we feel very proud and which we will defend forever,” they added.

The disc was recorded in New York, Paris and Bogota, and features important artists such as Goyo from Colombian hip hop group ChocQuibTown.

The pair, whose name means “Three Crowns,” consists of artists P.N.O. and Rocca, who are both of Colombian descent, but grew up in the streets of New York and Paris, respectively, and formed the Latin hip hop group in 2001.

“We are children of the mestizo music that was listened to in the lower barrios of New York, Paris and Bogota: our three crowns,” the pair said in a recent visit to Colombia.

“When we started we talked about real feelings related to what we had to live and see around us as mestizo settlers in the first world. Always with [elements of] the hardcore underground hip hop that we listened to, but also with the Latin flavor that we carried inside us, being faithful, honest and very professional,” they added.

The duo received a Grammy nomination in 2007, and recently finished a contract with the well-known Latin American urban music label Machete Music.
