With less than two months left before Colombia’s elections, authorities announced that they have received 736 complaints of possible electoral fraud reported weekly Semana.
The Immediate Reaction Unit for Electoral Transparency (Uriel) from the Colombia’s Ministry of the Interior reported the alerts, which involve irregular registration of identities, restrictions placed on voters, and people registering to vote in other districts than where they live.
Antioquia is the department with the most reports (174), followed by Valle del Cauca with 53, and Bolivar with 51.
Interior Minister German Vargas Lleras also revealed that 13,833 election candidates have criminal records – representing more than 10% of total candidates.
Of these candidates, 2,289 have been reported to the DAS, 2,307 to the Inspector General’s Office, 40 to the Comptroller’s Office, 85 to the police, and 9,112 to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
