The Colombian government rejected the Thursday published Human Rights
Watch report saying the it was biased, full of personal animosity and
far removed from reality.
“Generally speaking for what I’ve seen it’s a very biased, hardly objective report,” Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio told newspaper El Espectador.
Carlos franco, director of the vice-President’s human rights office, told Caracol Radio the government had no criminal intentions as implied in the HRW report.
According to the human rights group, the administration of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe is “undermining”
efforts to investigate and prosecute the crimes of paramilitaries
in the country. HRW also criticized the administration’s “concerted campaign to smear and discredit the Court.”
