Colombian foreign sales have fallen by 18.7% in August this year compared to the 27% increase that was recorded in August 2008.
According to the National Statistics Department, DANE, this result has been primarily attributed to the decline of 12.5% in traditional exports, in particular the 16% fall in oil sales, reported news site Portafolio on Thursday.
Trade with Colombia’s primary exchange partner, the United States, has declined by 16.4% and Colombia’s nontraditional global exportation decreased my 26.6%
These figures are deemed to be a result of the effects of the global economic crisis on Colombia.
