Colombia news - Carlos Barbosa

The Colombian architect and designer Carlos Barbosa went to the United
States several years ago. Now, Barbosa is the head of production design
of the U.S. series Lost, CSI Miami and 24.

In an interview with Radio W the Colombian designer recounted his experiences and challenges in Los Angeles.

“All [of the shows] have their own complexity. The one I’m filming now, 24, is a production for television, with a gigantic scale. In every episode we are planning how to fly a helicopter over a building, how to make an explosion in the street, etc.,” Barbosa said.

According to the Colombian, it is really important to have passion for your work in this industry. “It took me a long time to enter [the industry], until I had the opportunity thanks to a producer who supported me … I succeeded because I believe in my work.”

One of the challenges of Barbossa’s work is to create several scenes in one location. “In Lost, the times changes. It goes from the present to the past or the future. In addition, everything is filmed in Hawai, ie during the history we have to create Korea, Australia, the United States, New Orleans. Because all of its characters, when they visit the past, have their histories in different parts of the world, that’s why we have to create all these scenes in one island,” Barbossa explains.

The Colombian designer said he plans to continue working in this field. “I consider myself fortunate to have been able to achieve what I achieved so far. I keep realizing the dream of designing products and interesting artistic challenges like these.”
