Colombian cyclist Mauricio Soler was reported to be in a stable medical condition after the life threatening accident he suffered Thursday.
Soler, who crashed during the sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse, was airlifted from the Swiss mountains after apparently hitting a curb that sent him flying into a spectator.
Soler’s physician said that the cyclist’s health has been improving “favorably,” reported newspaper El Espectador.
“The news (Friday) is good. Mauricio remains hospitalized in intensive care and his progress remains favorable. His cerebral edema, which is of the greatest concern, has experienced a slight improvement and for this reason we need to remain positive,” explained team physician Alfredo Zuniga.
Dr. Zuniga added, “the 48-72 hours after the accident are crucial and the first hours are even more critical, and he has passed both. Also the development in his pneumothorax has been favorable. He has, also, multiple lesions and fractures, but what the doctors are focused most is the issue of the edema.”
Mauricio Soler’s team, Movistar, lost Spanish teammate Xavier Tondo in an unfortunate accident last month.
