C0lombian crime boss Hernan Dario Usuga, alias “Cesarin,” was recaptured Sunday after having escaped house arrest in February, reported local media.

Cesarin, whose criminal activities were concentrated in Medellin, the country’s second largest city, was reportedly apprehended in the northwestern city of Turbo by members of the National Police and the investigative arm of the Prosecutor General’s Office (CTI).

In 2009, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, conspiracy and possession of illegal firearms.

Last February, however, a judge granted him house arrest, ruling that the convicted murderer had a legitimate need to look after his family, particularly his daughter, who is undergoing psychological therapy.

Less then a week after being sent home from prison, Cesarin escaped. The ex-paramilitary reportedly paid a body double $250,000 in his attempt to allude the authorities.

Cesarin was a member of the paramilitary group, the AUC, until its demobilization in 2006. He was also believed to be second-in-command of the “Oficina de Envigado,” the remnants of Pablo Escobar’s infamous Medellin Cartel.

The crime lord was suspected of controlling more than 50 micro-gangs during an urban turf war that killed thousands.

It remains unclear whether Cesarin will face renewed sentencing for attempting to escape his house arrest, or what facilities he will be housed in going forward.
