Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz will expose the violence that swept through his homeland in the second half of the 20th century in an exhibition in Madrid, Spain.
The multi-media artist combines drawing, video, instalaciones and photography in his exhibition entitled
“Impresiones debiles” (“Weak impressions”).
To mark the occasion of the Latin American artist’s first show in Spain, he will exhibit two yet unpublished projects whose central axis is memory.
For his work on historical memory, Muñoz has used press photos of Colombia in the 1950’s that are “iconic and somehow remain as stereotypes” of the rise of violence in the country, reported Spanish press EFE.
Muñoz has utilized black and white images of recent Colombian history that are not easily recognizable to an outsider but are key to understanding the present situation in the country.
The exhibition opens on Thursday and will run until May 21 at the La Fabrica gallery in Madrid.
