An award-winning Colombian painter, graphic artist, and teacher Gustavo Zalamea has died at the age of 60, various media reported Wednesday.
Zalamea, who had been suffering from pneumonia, died in Manaus, Brazil.
Zalamea has won several awards, including the National Prize of Graphic Design in 1993 awarded by the Colombian government.
Gustavo Zalamea studied architecture at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota and anthropology and design at the Universidad de Concepcion in Chile.
The artist was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1951. His father was a journalist and his mother a famous art critic.
Minister of Culture Mariana Garces Cordoba mourned the death of Zalamea.
Cordoba said he was “recognized for the political denunciation in his paintings and graphic works, the mental dexterity with the line, the diagram and his huge oil paintings on canvas.”
