The Commander of the Aviation Division of the Colombian Army denied on Thursday allegations made by former President Alvaro Uribe that troops are demoralized.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, General Javier Rey addressed Uribe’s claim by saying, “I want to tell Mr. Ex-president on behalf of all the soldiers that this is not true. All the soldiers are engaged in operations to protect the population and infrastructure of the state.”
Uribe made the allegation on Tuesday while criticizing that the army was not producing the same results as the under the previous government.
General Rey acknowledged that some operations had been delayed to ensure respect for human rights and the country’s biodiversity, but added that at no time have the soldiers ever lowered their guard in the fight against guerrillas.
