Seven guerrillas of the FARC were killed in combat in the southwest of the country, the Colombian army said Sunday.
The suspected rebels were allegedly killed on the border of the Cauca and Nariño departments.
In a telephone conversation with newspaper El Espectador, Major General Leonardo Barrero said “the combat left seven dead and one captured after combat” in the Leiva municipality.
According to the army official, all dead and captured rebel belonged to the FARC’s 29th front which is responsible for the trafficking of drugs from the east to the Pacific coast.
Barrero claimed that his men had been able to either capture or kill 58 members of the rebel unit.
The area where the kills allegedly were made is one of the most violent in Colombia, because of its strategic location for drug trafficking.
