The commander of Colombia’s armed forces asked the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office to proceed with the indictment of a Dutch member of the FARC.
According to Admiral Edgar Cely, recent public statements by FARC-member Tanja Nijmeijer are enough for legal authorities to charge her with rebellion and the illegal carrying of firearms.
“Something is very clear and she herself says that we we should come and be received with mortars, explosives and bullets. This can easily be a lead to a process against her,” Cely was quoted as saying by newspaper El Espectador.
The Dutch woman recently made news again after videos of her appeared in Dutch and Colombian media. In these videos, the guerrilla stated she was part of the FARC voluntarily and would stay within the guerrilla ranks until her death. Nijmeijer has been with Colombia’s largest rebel movement since 2002, and is known under the alias “Alexandra,” or “Eillen”
