Colombian airlines carried 33.9 percent more passengers in 2010 compared to the year before, the country’s aviation authority announced.
According to RCN Radio, cargo transport also rose by 9.3 percent.
The radio station reported Tuesday that international travel went up 10.9 percent.
According to Aeronautica Civil director Carlos Silva, the heavy rains and floods that made land travel to some of the country’s regions impossible in the second half of 2010 helped the aviation industry.
“There is a big demand on a national level and an additional opportunity for the airlines to transport. In six months the rainy season caused an increase in all air operations,” Silva told RCN.
