Colombian actresses fight over ‘narco-model’ role

narco trafficking, sanclamente, colombia

Three of Colombia’s hottest divas are set to fight tooth and claw for the coveted role of “narco-queen” Angie Sanclemente in an upcoming television series. Marcela Mar, Sara Corrales and Carolina Guerra all have designs on the role and so far, there’s no word on who’s the favourite.

If things get nasty, it would not be the first time Corrales and Mar have come to blows. Last year, Corrales shacked up with married director Robinson Diaz, earning herself the dubious title of Colombia’s premiere femme fatale. In an interview, Marr said her ‘Vecinos’ co-star resembled a “prostitute” who perpetuated the association of Colombia with drug-trafficking. Corrales’ pulled no punches in responding these comments and immediately filed a lawsuit, which was retracted only at the last minute when Mar grudgingly issued an apology.

The role would be a dream-come-true for any aspiring actress, so it is unlikely that Corrales – never one to shy away from publicity or confrontation – will back down without a fight.

The story of “narco queen” Angie Sanclemente has captured media attention across the world. The former beauty queen headed a multi-million dollar operation, smuggling cocaine on first class flights using an army of beautiful drug mules. The syndicate was exposed after police seized 57kg of cocaine from one of Sanclemente’s 21-year-old “angels,” and a five month manhunt ensued. Currently being detained in Buenos Aires, the model has consistently maintained her innocence.

A telenovela titled “Diosa Coronada” (Crowned Goddess) is set to bring Sanclemente’s story to the small screen later this year – hopefully it won’t provoke too many bitch slaps in the process.
