Colombia’s vice-President Francisco Santos Sunday started a five-day official visit to Israel as part of a Middle East tour.
During his visit, Santos met Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman and is also scheduled to meet with President Shimon Perez.
According to Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit “will
focus on two central issues: The good bilateral relationship between
the two countries, and cooperation in the fields of security and
technology.”
Santos will also visit Colombians soldiers who are stationed in Israel as part of the Multi-National Force in the north of the country.
According to Israel, “Colombia
represents an important support element in Latin America for Israel,
especially in light of the anti-Israel line led by Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez and the breaking-off of diplomatic relations with Venezuela
and Bolivia.”
Israel is one of Colombia’s main weapons supplier.
