Colombia will attend the International Donor’s Conference Towards a New Future for Haiti, scheduled at the United Nation’s (UN) New York headquarters on March 31st.
The U.S. and the UN will host the conference, which will be attended by major Haiti relief effort donors such as Brazil and the European Union.
Around 100 countries are expected to participate in the conference, which aims, “to mobilize international support and announce concrete financial commitments for Haiti’s recovery and reconstruction needs,” according to a UN statement.
Among the first countries to have sent emergency help to Haiti, Colombia has also expressed support for its reconstruction. A Colombian neighboorhood will be built in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, thanks to the funds already raised by Colombian NGOs.
The Caribbean nation of Haiti was leveled when an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit on January 12. A massive aid effort was undertaken to help the survivors of the crushed nation.
