Colombia has jumped on the eco-friendly bandwagon as 30 electric cars will be rolled out on to the streets of Medellin, Cali and Bogota.
The cars, designed and built by Mitsubishi, will be re-chargeable at any of the 15 specially designed stations across the country.
Each vehicle will cost just over $50 thousand and would be expected to travel between 25 and 30 thousand miles a year. When fully charged the cars will be able to travel just over 99 miles.
The scheme would account for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by around 90 tons, a substantial amount considering transport accounts for around 13% of Bogota’s CO2 emissions.
Colombia has shown a strong willingness to find greener alternatives to traffic in recent years, including electric taxis in Bogota and electric transport for tourists.
