Colombia to import 42,000 tons of sugar

Colombia will import 42,000 ton sugar to deal with the shortage of sugar resulting from a massive strike of cane cutters.

The Colombian cane production, normally 4,000 ton of sugar per dayhas been paralyzed by the strike that’s been going on since September 15.

As a result sugar is starting to become hard to get or too expensive in some of Colombia’s popular markets.

Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Saturday accused the FARC of having infiltrated the strike.
