Colombia soccer league round 15 preview

Millonarios will look to maintain their lead at the top of Colombia soccer’s Primera A when they entertain Deportes Quindio in the Colombia capital this weekend.

The Bogota-based giants are currently joint top with Itagui but have played a game less than their rivals.

They go into the match unbeaten in their last three games although had to settle for a point last weekend following a 1-1 draw with Independiente Medellin.

Millonarios’s closest rivals Itagui have been the somewhat surprise package this season and could leapfrog their rivals if they they beat Envigado and Millonarios fail to win.

Coach Lionel Alvarez is hoping his side can maintain their improvement and produce some attractive football.

“We are working with the same seriousness and commitment because we want to keep improving. Hopefully things will go well on Saturday and we can get the ball and generate football to get a good result,” said Alvarez.

Atletico Nacional meanwhile entertain La Equidad on Sunday as the team with the longest unbeaten league record.

The Medellin giants have not lost since the opening day of the season and they would extend their record to 14 games if they avoid a surprise defeat on Sunday.

Nacional’s city rivals Medellin face a tricky trip to Deportes Tolima, a team which have amassed the same amount of points so far this season.

Victory for Medellin would push them back into the top eight in the league and bring an end to their torrid run of four games without a victory.

In other notable fixtures third-placed Junior travel to Cucuta Deportivo aiming for their first win in three while reigning champions Santa Fe look to make it two wins on the bounce when they take on Real Cartagena in the weekends’ opening fixture.
