Colombia Soccer League Preview – Week 13

by Charlie de Rivaz October 4, 2013
2.1K

On Saturday, the league’s top four teams will be in action, including a Millonarios side basking in the cool glow of the Almighty and a Nacional side looking to end a disaster-ridden run of two draws. Sunday sees a mixed bag of not particularly enticing ties, the pick of a rotting bunch sees Santa Fe host Once Caldas.

Saturday, October 5th – 5pm

Patriotas vs. Millonarios

All believers will be congregating in Boyaca this Saturday to see Patriotas take on Papally-approved Millonarios. In a somewhat confusing turn of events the Pope ended up blessing the shirt of the team whose fans murdered three supporters of rival teams last week.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, expect Millonarios to vanquish the philistine hordes of Patriotas and rise above Cali into second place in the Liga Postobon, at least until Cali play later that evening.

5:30pm

Nacional vs. Envigado

Nacional have suddenly stopped winning. After 7 straight wins, including three consecutive 2-0 home victories, the club have officially entered deep crisis after drawing their last two games.

Wednesday’s derby with rivals Medellin ended 1-1, with Argentine Gérman Cano levelling for “The Powerful” five minutes after Francisco Najera put Nacional ahead. Cano’s header was the first time anyone had put the ball past keeper Franco Armani in 1046 minutes, allegedly a record.

Now Nacional will expect to get back to winning ways against their neighbors Envigado, who trail the leaders by 11 points despite having played two more games.

Sunday, October 6th – 5pm
Santa Fe vs. Once Caldas

The pick of Sunday’s games sees Santa Fe take on Once Caldas at home in Bogota. Santa Fe have been falling down the league quicker than a sinner into Hell, and now sit in 7th place after 5 games without a win. Their most recent slice of demoralization came on Wednesday with a 2-1 loss away at Envigado, a third defensive error in as many games gifting the win to the Antioquean side.
