French newspaper Liberation on Thursday bashed Colombia’s literacy in a global study on reading and writing skills among youth.
In its Evaluation of Educational Achievement, the magazine evaluated literacy among 45 countries and indicated that reading comprehension in Colombia was low.
It went on to say that even if an article was written in Spanish, the possibility remained that some Colombians wouldn’t comprehend it. According to Liberation, Colombia should feel humiliated by the results of the study considering six out of 10 children have failed to pass tests.
International assessments reveal that 62% of low-income students in Latin America have difficulty performing reading tasks and lack essential skills needed to be effective and productive in society.
