Colombia’s revenue agency DIAN said it is suffering a series of failures in its computer systems, causing ‘serious delays’ in shipments into the country.
The Colombian Federation of Agents of International Trade Logistics (FITAC) says that computer failures began on 27 November and are still unresolved. Caracol reports that FITAC has registered problems in Bogota, Cali, Cartagena, Buenaventura, Ipiales, Cucuta and Santa Marta, resulting in what the trade federation say are serious delays to foreign trade.
In response DIAN on Monday issued a statement saying that the problems were ”primarily in the database supporting operations in the Regional Customs office of Bogota” and that it is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. DIAN has also implemented a contingency plan that allows businesses to register imports using paper forms or email.
