Colombia regrets the leaking of State Department documents by whisteblower website Wikileaks, its government said Monday.
In a short press statement, President Juan Manuel Santos’ press office said it “regrets the leaking of diplomatic documents of the United States and has solidarity with the administration of President Barack Obama for what it considers an enormous security risk for the American people and their officials.”
Earlier that day, Vice President Angelino Garzon said that any tension between governments in the wake of the release of sensitive documents by Wikileaks will be overcome through diplomatic means.
According to Wikileaks, it possesses 2,416 cables sent between Washington and its embassy in Bogota. None of the media who have access to files had published on Colombia related issues by Tuesday morning.
