Colombia is ready to confront a potential outbreak of the AH1N1 virus at the same scale as Mexico, the government says.
According to government spokesman Jose Fernando Cardona, Colombian health authorities are now in the possession of 197,000 anti-viral treatments that could serve a potential demand comparable to that of Mexico where more than 1,100 people are confirmed to have the virus and 42 people died.
“Following the current tendency of new confirmed cases around the world, the country has the capacity to provide antiviral treatments to patients who need them in this phase of the epidemic,” Cardona was quoted by Caracol Radio as saying.
The official added that Colombia will complete the distribution of 1,026,000 treatments in the coming few days.
