The number of confirmed fatalities due to the swine flu or AH1N1 in Colombia has been raised to 43, the country’s Social Welfare Minister announced on Monday.
The total number of confirmed infections was raised to 795, which is more than double the amount of patients compared to last week.
The sharp rise in infections does not susprise Minister Diego Palacio, as it had been predicted by the World Health Organization, he told press.
The WHO “said the virus was going to arrive and that it would spread all over the world and that is what is happening,” the Minister said.
According to Palacio, health authorities have not let their guard down and recommendations to local health authorities have been intensified.
Colombia expects a more massive outbreak of the flu soon as the dry season is coming to an end and the rainy season will affect many the immune system of many Colombians.
