The under director of Colombia’s prison authority has resigned over alleged death threats by an extradited commander of the neo-paramilitary “Urabeños.”
General Pompy Pinzon resigned from his post after months of alleged threats from extradited Urabeños commander Camilo Torres, alias “Fritanga,” who was arrested at his wedding last year.
According to Pinzon, the threats began after he had taken measures to end a series of privileges acquired by the drug trafficking neo-paramilitary leader while still imprisoned in Colombia.

Colombia’s Interior Ministry and prison authority INPEC decided to accept Pinzon’s resignation after a risk assessment that concluded that the top official was at too much risk for an attack.
In spite of Fritanga’s extradition to the United States in April, the threats allegedly worsened after which the general decided to hand in his resignation.

Fritanga, officially registered as deceased until his arrest, is accused of being on of the Urabeños’ top commanders. He was arrested at his own wedding on an island off the Caribbean coast.
