Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Wednesday invited Israeli businesses to invest in the South American country during a trade seminar in Tel Aviv.

“Together we can create a tremendous synergy. That is why I wanted to come and express our interest, because we have many opportunities. We have many things that you need and you have many things that we need,” Santos declared during the last official meeting of his visit to Israel.

The president referred to Colombia as a “success story” due to the recent progress the country has made with regards to confronting the armed conflict and associated issues.

“We have had to confront the drug cartels, terrorism, poverty, but I think that we have reached a time, when we can say that our future is much brighter,” Santos said.

Colombia’s Head of State also called attention to the country’s improving economic status and pointed out that Colombia is in an excellent position to conduct trade with foreign nations thanks to trade agreements with countries all over the world as well as its strategic geographical location with both Pacific and Caribbean coastlines.

“The country is in an optimal location to become an exporting power, leveraging our geographical location. Colombia is right in the middle of the Americas and we are the only South American country with coasts in the Pacific and in the Caribbean and this puts us in an ideal and optimal situation,” explained the president.

President Santos is visiting Israel this week as part of a larger tour of the United Kingdom and the Middle East to promote economic relations between Colombia and foreign nations.
