A truck containing almost 2,400 kilos of marijuana hidden in a fruit shipment bound for the US was intercepted by a joint task force of Colombian police and US anti-drug agencies, local media reported on Sunday.

One hundred and fifty crates of marijuana was intercepted by the anti-narcotics branch of the Colombian police working in conjunction with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as the truck carrying the cargo traveled through the town of La Paz in the northern state of Cesar, Santa Fe radio reported.

In what was described by the Colombian police as “a strong blow to drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the north,” the truck was stopped and found to have a passionfruit shipment of 600 crates, 150 of which contained marijuana bound for the northern state of La Guajira intended to for shipping to the US.

The 150 crates contained a specific type of marijuana known as “creepy” which has a stronger, more hallucinogenic effect making it much more lucrative than usual grade marijuana as drug smugglers can charge a higher prices for it.
