Colombia ended an international friendly match against Peru in a 1-1 draw after Peru’s Jefferson Farfan scored an 89th-minute penalty to cancel out Carlos Bacca’s first half score.
The match was the first time the Colombian national team has taken to the field since their quarter-final exit against Argentina in the 2015 Copa America.
Before Farfan’s goal, it appeared that the Colombians were way on their way to a win after Bacca maneuvered around goalkeeper Pedro Gallese’s legs for a goal eight minutes before the half-time. Although Bacca continued putting pressure on the Peruvians throughout the rest of the game, with one minute in regulation time remaining, Peru’s Farfan was awarded a penalty shot and took the opportunity to put the ball in the net past David Ospina.
With the absence of Juan Cuadrado and Radamel Falcao, Coach Jose Peckerman used the opportunity to give a few new players a chance on the field including Frank Fabra and Gustavo Cuellar, who lined up alongside alongside James Rodriguez, Ospina, Cristian Zapata and Bacca.
Peru and Colombia last met on the field during the 2015 Copa America where the match also ended in a tied 0-0 goalless game.
Colombia will meet Peru again on October 7 as it hosts the neighboring country in a South American qualifying for the 2018 World Cup opens.
