A survey by La FM showed Uribe would receive 71,9 percent of the votes if elections were held today.The largest opposition parties, Polo Democrático and the Liberal Party are now looking for a way to unitedly present a candidate, who would have enough popular support to beat Uribe.According to the same La FM survey, former mayor of Medellín and possible candidate for the opposition, Sergio Fajardo, would win the elections if Uribe will not run.The Colombian constitution doesn’t allow a president to serve three terms, but coalition parties are gathering autographs in Colombian cities to force a constitutional change, making it possible for the current president to be re-elected.

Uribe himself hasn’t denied wanting to serve a third term, but also hasn’t announced he aspires to run for the Presidency again in 2010. Uribe did say he favors a continuation of his “Democratic security” policy.The heads of the Liberal Party and Polo Democrático agreed to present a number of candidates in the survey and how to unite their policies.
