The Colombian government expressed its condolences and offered aid to Argentina Thursday after at least 50 people were killed and over 600 were injured in a train crash in the capital Buenos Aires.
In a press release, the Colombian Foreign Ministry expressed its solidarity, saying that it “stands ready to render assistance to both the authorities and relief agencies if necessary.”
Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin sent her condolences to the families of those killed and she “hopes for a speedy recovery of the wounded.”
A rush-hour commuter train slammed into a barrier at a downtown station in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. The carnage and devastation that followed has left the country reeling with family members desperately searching for relatives in local hospitals and morgues.
Rescue workers used Vaseline and oil to pull the living and dead from the crumpled train. “The image of all of those people begging us to pull them out was moving,” said the city’s emergency medical director, Alberto Crescenti.
