Colombia’s foreign minister met with a leading international law firm on Tuesday to discuss an appeal over maritime territories surrounding the Caribbean island of San Andres.
Minister Maria Angela Holguin met with the London-based international law firm Volterra Fietta, a collective that specializes ‘’state-to-state disputes,’’ concerning a reportedly unappealable International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on November 19 that gave sovereignty of waters surrounding the Colombian island of San Andres, 775 Km off the country’s north coast, to Nicaragua.
The meetings were aimed at discussing routes that Colombia can take to come to a new agreement with Nicaragua over the disputed areas, despite the ICJ ruling giving the Colombian government no room for appeal.
The disputed area consists of 30,000 square miles of what was prime fishing ground for hundreds of residents of San Andres.
