Eduardo Lara selected 18 players to travel to Spain for this friendly. Atlético de Madrid’s Luis Amaranto Perea was also selected but didn’t get permission from his club.
Camp Nou, one of the world’s biggest stadiums, seemed equally divided between Catalan and Colombian fans. Despite many empty seats, there was definitely no lack of atmosphere as Catalan independence slogans and Colombian decorations dominated the ambiance.
Neither side managed to really dominate throughout the match but the Colombians lacked some of the creativity and speed the Catalans did have.
Barcelona prodigy Bojan Krkic put the home side ahead after 16 minutes and Joan Verdú added the second from the edge of the penalty area nine minutes after the break.
Colombia did deliver a better performance in the second half and a goal was eventually scored as reward. A Catalan defender tried to clear the ball but instead hit Freddy Montero and bounced in past keeper Morales.
The Colombian line-up consisted of Julio, Zúñiga, Mendoza, Mosquera, Armero, Anchico, Bedoya, Pino, Marín, Montaño and Quintero. Ospina, Cassiera, Aguilar, Montero, Marrugo and Otálvaro came on as substitutes.
