The controversial “Bodies … The Exhibition” will open in Bogota on January 30, after ending its stint in Medellin on January 17.
The highly popular but much-criticised exhibition involving the presentation of real, preserved human bodies, is currently touring Colombia’s cities.
“Bodies” has been in the city of Medellin since November 2009 and will remain until January 17, when it will transfer to the capital Bogota from January 30 to May 2. The exhibition will end its tour in Cali, where it will be on show from May 15 to July 4.
“Bodies” is comprised of thirteen human bodies, preserved through a complicated process of “plastination” and erected in various active poses, their skin removed to reveal the intricacies of the human anatomy. In addition, the exhibition displays over 200 human organs and several examples of the development of a human fetus.
The exhibition has been making its way across the world, giving visitors a fascinating insight into our anatomical systems, including the skeleton, the muscles, nerves, our respiratory tract , digestion, circulation and reproduction.
As an extra, event managers in Medellin have organized a lecture called the “History of Mummification.” The lecture will be held by Doctor Juan David Hernandez, a surgeon and Colombian scientist from the University of the Andes.
The lecture will take place on January 12 in a hall adjacent to the main “Bodies” exhibition and will be open to all visitors to the exhibition at no extra cost.
The main exhibition is open from 8AM to 8PM daily, and tickets cost COP20,000, or COP15,000 concessions Monday to Friday, and COP25,000 on weekends.
