Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos is hopeful that whoever is elected as the next president of the United States will continue to strengthen the bi-national collaboration.
Whether it be republican candidate Mitt Romney or democratic candidate Barack Obama, Santos is confident that whoever is next elected into the White House will maintain and keep increasing relations between the two nations which have been providing Colombia with security and trade.
“They are on the campaign trail in the United States, depending on what happens and whatever the outcome, we hope that with whoever wins the relationship will continue to strengthen, it suits us, we are playing a role in the region and with the United States that is relevant,” said Santos.
The president emphasized the U.S. as a key partner for Colombia during the process of implementing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both nations. The long stalled FTA went into effect May 15, 2012 and has already benefited Colombian production sectors.
The next presidential elections in the United States will take place on November 6.
