The peace process between the Colombian government and FARC guerrillas has been postponed until November 19, according to a government press release Tuesday.
“On Monday 19 in Havana, Cuba, negotiators will begin discussion on the agreed agenda,” said the statement.
After peace talks were inaugurated on October 18 in the Norwegian of Oslo, the two warring sides were initially scheduled to continue talks in Havana, Cuba on November 15.
Delegates from the Colombian government and FARC have began ironing out the procedural aspects for the talks in Cuba since early November.
According to the latest statement, “Delegates of the National Government and the FARC-EP agreed to continue the technical meeting to finalize details of the mechanisms for citizen participation from 15 November to 18 March.”
As a result of the delay, substantive talks on the major points of the agenda will not commence until November 19. The first issue up for debate is agrarian reform.
