Colombian coffee growers will be forced to harvest the current crop until February 2013 after it was discovered that the next crop will be delayed, report Radio Caracol Tuesday.
The chariman for Colombia’s Nation Federation of Coffee Growers, Luis Genaro Muñoz, announced the decision which will affect 300 municipalities throughout Colombia which produce coffee while confirming a $2.2 million investment will be given to purchase grain.
Muñoz revealed that due to Farmer’s Cooperatives and help from the ‘National Coffee Fund’ cash flow should not be a problem in the industry despite an ‘International Economic Crisis’.
Production at this time of year accounts for 70% of Colombia’s annual harvest and Muñoz is hopeful that next year there will be major production of coffee.
