The governments of Colombia and Ecuador on Wednesday formalized the re-establishment of ties after almost three years.
The foreign ministers of both country met in Bogota where they exchanged the credentials of their new ambassadors.
“With this step we are taking today we have fully established relations between the two countries,” Colombia’s Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin said at a press conference held with her Ecuadorean counterpart Ricardo Patiño.
Ecuador cut ties with Colombia in March 2008 after the Colombian army attacked a FARC camp located on Ecuadorean territory. The re-establishment of ties was initiated by the administration of Alvaro Uribe in September 2009, but not completed and formalized until Wednesday.
