Four Colombian cyclists dominated the top 10 spots in the third stage of Vuelta a España on Monday, in one of the three Grand Tours of European cycling.
Following closely behind 23-year-old Australian cyclist Michael Matthews who currently holds first place in the competition are Colombians Nairo Quintana (second), Rigoberto Uran (fourth), Esteban Chaves (sixth), and Julian Arredondo (eight), according to Spanish EFE news wire.
The third of five stages of Vuelta a España was a grueling 122 mile ride from Cadiz on Spain’s south Atlantic coast, to the inland town of Arcos de la Frontera.
Nairo Quintana, Colombia’s Giro d’Italia hero, announced in June he will compete in the 2015 Tour de France, cycling’s most prestigious road race.

The 24-year-old Quintana is the first Latin American to win the Giro d’Italia, and the second ever Colombian to win a European Grand Tour. Thanks to Quintana’s stellar performance at Giro d’Italia, he is the new leader of the UCI World Tour’s individual rankings.
