Colombia’s Ministry of Social Welfare Tuesday confirmed six more deaths attributed to the AH1N1 virus or swine flu.
According to a press release on the Ministry’s website, there are now 134 new confirmed cases of AH1N1 infection, including six deaths: 2 in Bogota, 1 in Medellin, 1 in Cucuta, 1 in Cota, and 1 in Duitama. So far 641 cases of confirmed AH1N1 infection and 35 death caused by the virus have been reported.
Since May 3, when the first person tested positive for AH1N1 virus in Colombia, 22 departments, 4 districts, and 69 municipalities have reported confirmed cases of the pandemic influenza.
Bogota has reported the greatest number of cases, 375 in all, more than 50% of the nation’s total.
No cases have been reported in Amazonas, Arauca, Guania, Guaviare, Guajira, Nariño, Vaupes or Vichada.
Vaccines to prevent AH1N1 infection are still being tested.
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was also confirmed to have contracted the virus. According to his spokesman, he is improving.
