Colombia condemns Kenya mall attack

Colombia’s Foreign Ministry condemned Saturday’s attack and the resulting occupation of a shopping mall in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, which has left at least 68 dead and 175 injured.

In a press release sent out Sunday, the Foreign Ministry said that they “fiercely condemn the terrorist attack carried out by the terrorist group Al Shabab.”

The ministry, headed by Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin, expressed “our full support for the people and government of Kenya in this difficult moment. To the families of the victims we express our heartfelt condolences.”

Colombia’s foreign minister said that it hoped the Kenyan government would soon be able to resolve the situation. Additionally, the ministry said that they would be willing to help if required by the government in Nairobi.

The deadly terrorist attack began on Saturday when armed men entered a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital and started shooting. Following the siege, the attackers took dozens of hostages, some of whom are still thought to be in the hands of the terrorists.

The attack is allegedly a retaliation for Kenyan military action in the neighboring country of Somalia.
