Colombian aviation authorities said Friday they have been forced to close three of the country’s regional airports due to extreme weather conditions. Other airports are running alternative schedules.
The western Colombian airports of Armenia, Pereira and Quibdo were closed due to heavy rainfall.
Similar extreme weather conditions forced authorities to reduce flights to the airports of Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Popayan, Ibague and Barrancabermeja.
Hundreds of travelers have been stuck in Bogota’s El Dorado Airport, the country’s largest, since Thursday, while others are dealing with hours-long delays.
According to the mayor of Medellin, one of the cities that has been most affected by extreme rainfull in the last few days, said that rains hitting the city on Wednesday were the worst in 20 years.
