The new head of Colombia’s Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF), Diego Molano, said Monday that the Victims Law is positively changing the country.
Molano, the former director of the government welfare group, Accion Social, said that forced displacements were diminishing throughout the country, due to new policies aimed at real, integral reparations for the victims.
The new head of ICBF highlighted three new features of the program that will have a direct impact for the victims.
First, the return of victims to their homeland will speed up, with a plan that includes 60 thousand families.
Second, the financial resources available to help the victims of violence have increased to $836,800.
Finally, the use of more technological tools will be implemented to manage the victims’ information and records.
Additionally, Molano also said that the decrease in forced displacement was due to advances in security, but that a permanent solution can only be achieved through the establishment of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in cities or back to their homelands.
