The Administrative Department of Prevention, Attention, and Recovery of Disasters (DAPARD) put the state of Antioquia on yellow alert Monday after two people lost their lives, dozens were evacuated and a town lost their access to potable water.
According to a DAPARD press release, heavy rains and strong winds have destroyed six houses, affected 24 people, and forced the relocation of 17 houses in the municipality of Yarumal.
The two victims were elderly women of 77 and 86 years old.
The DAPARD director indicated that the yellow alert would remain during this rainy period which will last until approximately June 25. “The largest concentration of rains” will be in north, northeast, and west.
“We will continue the yellow alert for risk prevention throughout the state during this first rainy season,” stated DAPARD on their twitter account.
The municipality of Urrau lost access to potable water when a landslide covered the water intake of the town’s aqueduct. This development has most of the area without access to water, according to El Espectador newspaper.
DAPARD is present in the region with personnel and material to help those affected by the natural disasters.
