Colombia has seen an increase in registered cell phone users, according to the quarterly report of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC).
According to SIC there are nearly 43 million registered cell phones lines in Colombia, an increase of almost 480,000 subscribers over the previous quarter and a growth of 602,000 subscribers since the the same period last year.
Comunicacion Celular S.A. Comcel has the most subscribers at 28.5 million, followed by Telefonica Moviles Colombia S.A. Movistar (9.7 million), and Tigo (4.7 million).
SIC’s report also documented the attention providers paid to their customers. During the third quarter of 2010, there were 16.3 million complaints against providers.
The number of customer complaints has declined while the number of fines providers had to pay for not dealing with the complaints has increased. Comcel had to pay COP $164.2 million ($89.4 million), Tigo COP $61.2 million ($33.3 million) and Movistar COP $56.6 million ($30.8 million).
