Colombia’s press celebrated native soccer player Radamel Falcao Garcia, whose two goals secured Atletico Madrid’s Europe League victory on Wednesday.
Atletico Madrid won the Europe League in a 3-0 match against Atletic Bilbao. Falcao’s two goals secured the win and won him the title of “Best Striker” for the second year in a row.
The Colombian media has not been short on praise. Radio Caracol applauded the player for his outstanding performance and commented on the happiness of Falcao and his wife Lorelei Taron de Garcia. “We’re super happy and thankful to God for the goals,” said Taron de Garcia to the radio station.
Colombian newspaper El Espectador went even further commending the player’s “intelligent” game play and humility. The newspaper quoted Falcao before the match saying, “It doesn’t matter who makes the goals, what matters is that we win tomorrow.”
Website Terra Noticias went as far as to say the player had set European media “on fire” with his stellar performance.
Falcao spent his early childhood in Venezuela and was a avid baseball player before discovering soccer.
On top of the many awards and praises Falcao has recently received, his name now graces a metro station in the Romanian capital of Bucarest.
