Colombia’s 40th International Culture Festival kicked off in the central Boyaca department Friday.

Over four decades, the biggest cultural event of the department has developed and grown into a design which educates and shares diverse and exciting cultures from around the world.

Maria Ines Motta, the Secretary of Culture and Tourism in Boyaca, said that the event, running from August 31 to September 8, is a showcase for the country and will interlace ancestral culture with the expressions of the world of arts.

“I invite locals and visitors to strengthen ties of friendship in this cultural meeting where the people of Boyaca demonstrate examples of culture, respect and order,” said Motta.

The International Culture Festival program includes several performances of theater, music, dance, cinema, literature and music on its opening day

More than 3,600 artists will take part in an inaugural parade from 9AM to 12PM in the town plaza to honor the history of the international festival since 1973. The festival is considered to be one of the most representative of music, dance, the arts, theater, cultural heritage, literature, cinema and expressions of human sensibility.

Costa Rica is the guest of honor country this year and will be presenting an exclusive movie premiere at 7PM.

Friday’s events will conclude with a concert by legendary Mexican rancheras singer Vicente Fernandez at 8PM in the Stadium La Independencia.
